Abandoned Cemetery
Located at:   Lower Moncure Road,
Sanford, N.C. This cemetery covers 8.68 acres

White Oak A.M.E Zion Church has been physically removed from the site as of 2015, but the cemetery remains in a deplorable condition.  The Heritage Foundation, Inc. has attempted to acquire this cemetery, in order to restore it, but was met with resistance from the City of Sanford and it's Council Members.  However, Lee County Commissioner, Vice Chair, Rev. Dr. Ricky Frazier, who is the Presiding Elder of the A.M.E. Zion Sanford District expressed to us that, "This property can by no means be transferred to any foundation." He also stated on April 10, 2014 that, "The property may seem to be abandoned, however the A.M.E. Zion connection is in the process of removing the church and restoring the cemetery."
